Het Sonos-systeem is een draadloos muzieksysteem dat gebruik maakt van een eigen beveiligd WiFi-netwerk (Sonosnet 2) en laat toe om overal in en rond de woning te genieten van je favoriete muziekcollectie of radiostations op internet. Het streamt je muziek die opgeslagen is op PC, netwerkschijf of iPhone / iPod probleemloos naar je gekozen plek. Het Sonos Wireless Dock stuurt muziek draadloos naar alle ZonePlayers in huis via zijn digitale interface, zonder het te converteren naar analoog. Dit in tegenstelling tot de gangbare iPod-docks op de markt, die muziek analoog versturen. Door de digitale verzending van de iPod naar de speaker behoudt de muziek volgens Sonos de best mogelijke kwaliteit.

Gebruikers kunnen alle muziek, opgeslagen op een iPod of iPhone, inclusief de meeste iOS-muziek-apps draadloos via enkele of alle Sonos ZonePlayers tegelijk afspelen. Met de onlangs geïntroduceerde Sonos Controller for iPad kunnen gebruikers ook de muziek op de gedockte iPod of iPhone bedienen vanaf een iPad. Vanaf de iPod of iPhone in het dock spelen gebruikers zo hetzelfde nummer in elke kamer perfect synchroon af.
