Connecting to your local network
Sonos™ creates an own wireless sender-receiver network that is functioning independently of your (possibly wireless) computer network. The link between the internet connection (and the present computernetwork) and the Sonos™ network is a connection from the first ZonePlayer to the router with the internet connection.

There must be a router present in the network. This router is connected with the modem (DSL, cable) of the internet connection. The first ZonePlayer is connected to the router with a standard (UTP) network cable, and this makes up the link between the internet connection and the possible computer network with the Sonos™ network. From this point all the ZonePlayers are in wireless communication with each other.
- Sharing of digital music

Sharing of digital music
With the Sonos™ system you can share any music directory on a computer somewhere located in the pc network with Sonos™. In this way you are not only limited anymore to your pc to listen to your digital music, and above all you'll experience a much better audio quality.
- Music server

Music server
The optimal solution is to store your complete digital music collection on a separate music server, which is connected directly to a ZonePlayer using a normal (UTP) network cable. In this way all music is stored centrally, and you are not dependant anymore on a computer to play music. This music server is an external storage device with a capacity as desired, and can be connected to any ZonePlayer, as all music sources are accessible for all ZonePlayers anyhow.

No internet connection?
An internet connection is not a necessity, but is convenient. If there is no internet connection present or desired, you can only not listen to online internet radio. Of course, your own locally stored digital music is available. As well you'll miss enhancing software updates which Sonos™ automatically retrieves via the internet.

Own music installation and speakers
The Sonos™ system is shipped with or without loudspeaker boxes. You can continue to use your existing music installation, by connecting existing hifi equipment like a CD, SACD-player or end-amplifier to a ZonePlayer.
One can use speakers as preferred (e.g. also special in-wall or in-ceiling speakers, outdoor speakers, waterproof speakers,...), but these need to have an impedance of optimally 8 Ohm. (4 to 8 Ohm). Also an amplified ZonePlayer has a subwoofer output.

Setting up a Sonos system is easy as counting one, two, three!
